The Duwamish people have been in the Seattle / Greater King County area since time immemorial. Their stories, such as "North Wind, South Wind", tell of the last ice age and an ice barrage crashing on the Duwamish River.
They were the first signatories of the Point Elliott Treaty in 1855, signed by Chief Si'ahl, who was the chief of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.
The most famous personality of the Duwamish was Chief Seattle (1784 BC, died 1866).
